Drupal 7 Module Development Deep Dive Week
Get In-Depth With The Drupal 7 API
Customize and extend Drupal and bend it to your will! Spend a week with the Lullabot team at our new Activity Center and get an in-depth understanding of Drupal 7 development.
Immerse yourself with back-to-back workshops: Basic Module Development & Advanced Drupal Development. Register for either one individually, or register for the whole week and save.
We'll work from an example site, and extend the functionality by adding additional features via custom modules we'll write over the course of the week. We'll talk about how Drupal works under the hood and how to approach writing a Drupal module, providing best practices from our experience. There will be plenty of exercises, examples and always room for questions!
Basic Drupal Module Development - June 13th & 14th
On Monday and Tuesday, we'll discuss the basic knowledge that all Drupal developers will need in order to customize Drupal, understand the APIs, and find the essential resources important to Drupal development.
Topics We'll Cover Include:
- Basics of the Drupal Architecture
- Hooks: Event-driven interaction
- The menu system: routing Drupal requests
- The ins and outs of FormAPI
- The Database API
- Security best practices
- Using Drupal's theme system in your modules

Who Should Attend
Anyone with a basic understanding of PHP who wants to learn to extend Drupal's functionality.
Advanced Drupal Development - June 15, 16, 17
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we'll dive deeper into Drupal's framework with a look at some of the more advanced APIs, learn to integrate our code with popular contrib modules such as Views, CCK, and others, and discuss more advanced Drupal programming topics such as automated unit tests.

- API Changes between Drupal 6 and Drupal 7
- Creating Views-integrated modules
- Module development insider tricks
- Advanced database features
- Making your modules theme-able
- Spotting and fixing performance hot-spots
- Using Drupal's Ajax APIs for whiz-bang user interfaces

- Revision control and code deployment strategies

What Should I Bring?
Bring your laptop in order to get the full benefit of the workshop. Lullabot will provide each participant with free wifi and their own hosted Drupal site to work on during class.

I special rate is available for Workshop attendees at the Hampton Inn Providence Downtown. Also, the hotel will provide a daily shuttle service to and from the Lullabot activity center where the workshops will take place. Full hotel details are shown below:

What & Where Is the Lullabot Activity Center?
This event is happening at the brand new Lullabot Activity Center, located in a beautiful and historic mill building in Providence's Jewelry District. The Lullabot Activity Center is a 10 minute walk from downtown Providence and about a 20 minute walk from the Amtrak and Boston commuter-rail train station - or hop in a cab and you'll be there in minutes. Just a 2 1/2 hour train ride from New York, 45 minutes via train or car from Boston, and a 15 minute drive from the Providence airport, this is a very central location with affordable hotel options and lots of great food and culture. Come join us in the Ocean State's capitol city.
Where Should I Park?
If you are staying at the Hampton Inn Providence Downtown there will be a daily shuttle provided to and from the Lullabot activity center for your convenience. Shuttle to/from Hampton Inn & Lullabot Workshop will run Monday – Friday at 9:15am to the Lullabot activity center at 5:30PM back to the hotel. If you're driving from elsewhere, we're working on securing some recommended parking and will be posting this information shortly :-)
Additional Information
Each morning will begin with registration and continental breakfast at 9:30am. Classes run from 10am to 5pm.
Registration includes continental breakfast and lunch daily.
We will be working with Drupal 7, but questions about other Drupal versions are always welcome.
