Ryan Szrama (aka rszrama) talks about his path from working on different Drupal e-commerce modules starting with co-developing the Ubercart module for Prima Supply, and then on to working on Drupal Commerce for Commerce Guys.

In January of this year, Szrama announced that he and Commerce Guys were creating a fork of Ubercart called Drupal Commerce. There were a number of trademark issues and other disagreements of the future direction of Ubercart, and so Szrama took his Ubercore initiative and started porting it to Drupal 7. Ubercart continues to be one of the leading e-commerce solutions for Drupal 6, and Drupal Commerce is building off a lot of the latest changes in Drupal 7 and has a lot of high-profile community support building around it, including one of the top Drupal 7 core contributors Damien Tournoud.

Ubercart will continue to be developed and supported by Prima into Drupal 7, and there will also be an upgrade path to migrate from Ubercart on Drupal 6 to Drupal Commerce on Drupal 7.

The French-based AF83 has joined forces with Commerce Guys to create a joint venture in creating Drupal e-commerce sites with special checkout monitoring services that Szrama talks a bit about.

The Commerce Guys were also involved with helping create a Drupal 7 driver for Microsoft's SQL Server, and they talked more about it in this DrupalCon session.
