Do you have the basics of Drupal theming down, but are looking to take it to the next level? Are there aspects of Drupal's theme layer that continue to mystify you? Looking to fully customize your theme to meet your clients' exacting specifications? If any of the above sound like you, then you've come to the right place!
Join us in this two-day interactive workshop to learn how Drupal theming works "under the hood," and bend Drupal's output to your will. We'll guide you step-by-step through some of the trickier areas of theming, and impart several great time-saving tips.
We'll also cover:
- The anatomy of a theme engine.
- How to intercept and override pre-defined CSS files in Drupal.
- How to effectively use CSS caching.
- Dissecting a custom theme.
- How to write template files that your designer will love.
- How to make your modules easy to theme.
- Leveraging the power of Imagecache.
- Theming the unthemable: theming forms, removing cruft...
Who's Teaching?
The Advanced Drupal Theming workshop offers practical advice, best practices and hands-on training from Drupal experts who've developed real-world commercial web applications. This workshop will be lead by Lullabot theming ninjas Ted Serbinski and Nate Haug, as well as co-founder Jeff Robbins. We'll be available to answer questions from numerous perspectives and to ensure that every student receives one-on-one instruction.
Lullabot has created sites for Ringo Starr, MTV, Sony Records, Participant Productions, and Leo Laporte at This Week In Tech, and helped with planning and architecture of sites for television star Rhonda Britten of Starting Over, the BBC, and many others. Lullabot's contributions to the Drupal project include: the URL aliasing module, the ecommerce package, sIFR, TinyMCE, and countless bug fixes and features, plus extensive documentation.
Who Should Attend?
- Web developers with some PHP and CSS experience.
- Drupal themers who have read through the drupal.org handbook and are familiar with concepts like theme function overrides and .tpl.php files.
- Drupal developers looking to expand their knowledge of the theme system.
Attendees should be comfortable with PHP and CSS. Previous experience with Drupal and a general understanding of the Drupal API is required. Attendance is limited so register soon!
Past Attendees Say:
I learned more in a day with the Lullabot team, than I would have in a year on my own. Fantastic experience!
Darren Mak - Digital Web
The Lullabot Drupal Theming Workshop is a must! My main concern with using Drupal had been 'can I make it look like I want it to'? This workshop showed me how to do that. As a result, I have decided to go 100% Drupal with my web development business.
Rick Hood - Flow Media Design
This workshop is great because it is hands-on, and helped me get past some of the steep learning curves that come with Drupal.
Richard Geel - SBSI
The Lullabot Theming Ninjas walked us through the tools we need to truly take control of the look and feel of a drupal site. Now it's time to go home and break out of the mold!
John Jones - ESSDACK.org
What Should I Bring?
Bring your laptop in order to get the full benefit of the workshop. Lullabot will provide each participant their own hosted Drupal site to work on during class.
You'll also want to bring your list of things that you're trying to do and have questions about. We're here to help!
If you need help making a decision about attending or have further questions about the class, please contact us here or call 877-LULLABOT (+1-877-585-5226).
We'll see you there!
