Drupal Theming Deep Dive Week
Get in-depth with Drupal Theming!
Come hang out with Lullabot in Portland, OR and become an expert on Drupal theming! We'll be spending a full week (Monday through Friday) in back-to-back workshops that will include Basic Drupal Theming on Monday and Tuesday and Advanced Drupal Theming on Wednesday through Friday. Come learn to customize the look and feel of your site and, basically, how to make Drupal not look like Drupal. We'll cover everything from the very basics to design, jQuery, theme function overrides and more! You'll get hands-on practical training from Lullabot's Drupal experts and in one short week you yourself will be an expert on Drupal theming!
Basic Drupal Theming - August 2nd & 3rd
Still getting your head around the basics of Drupal theming? This the workshop for you!

- Theming concepts and terminology
- Info files

- Finding variables
- Outputting variables to template files
- Adding template files to theme
- Dynamic template names

- Theming Views
You'll also want to bring your list of things that you're trying to do and have questions about. We're here to help!
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Anyone with a very basic understanding of Drupal, HTML, and CSS who wants to learn about Drupal Theming. We recommend these videos to complete your prerequisite knowledge: Site Building With Drupal and Administering Drupal. Students will be editing and altering theme files, however they are not expected to know PHP for this class.
Advanced Drupal Theming - August 4th, 5th & 6th
We venture beyond basic theming concepts and head out into the deep waters which constitute more advanced Drupal theming.
Topics Covered Include:
- Designing for Drupal
- Using base themes and theme systems such as Zen
- Understanding Drupal CSS, classes, and ids
- Preprocess functions
- Overriding theme functions
- Theming forms
- hook_theme()
- Writing secure theme code
- Using jQuery and JavaScript in your theme
Who Should Attend?
Anyone who understands the concepts covered in the Basic Drupal Theming above. This class will delve more deeply into the PHP, JavaScript and programming aspects of theming, so attendees should be comfortable with basic programming constructs such as "if" and "foreach".

What Should I Bring?
Bring a laptop in order to get the full benefit of the workshop. Lullabot will provide each participant with free wifi and their own hosted Drupal site to work on during class. Some students may want to install Drupal locally on their laptops so that they will have access to their work after the workshop week (tutorial for Mac, Windows, Ubuntu).
Additional Information
Each morning will begin with registration and continental breakfast at 9:30am. Classes run from 10am to 5pm each day.
Registration price includes continental breakfast and lunch daily.
We will be working with Drupal 6, but questions about other Drupal versions are always welcome.
