Do you have some PHP experience, but are new to Drupal? Have you been able to get only so far with existing core and contributed modules and are looking for how to take Drupal to that "next step?" Are you interested in getting info on the nitty gritty details of what makes Drupal "tick?" Want to learn how to harness the power of Drupal's web application framework for rapid coding of powerful features? If any of the above sound like you, then you've come to the right place!
Join us in this three-day interactive workshop to learn how the various parts of Drupal fit together and how to extend Drupal to meet your needs. While imparting our first-hand professional knowledge and tips, we'll also guide you step-by-step through developing several modules, ranging from beginning level to advanced. We'll also cover:
- A "bird's eye view" of how all the parts of Drupal fit together.
- A run-through of Drupal terminology, backed up by "real world" examples.
- What "hooks" are all about and how to use them.
- Detailed information about Drupal's data schema.
- The nitty gritty details about Drupal's extremely flexible Form API.
- Best practices for module development.
- How to contribute to Drupal and tips on getting your changes and improvements into core.
- API changes in Drupal 5, and how they'll affect your development.
Who's Teaching?
The Drupal API workshop offers practical advice, best practices and hands-on training from Drupal experts who have developed real-world commercial web applications. This workshop will be lead by Lullabot principal Matt Westgate (co-author of Pro Drupal Development), Angie Byron, and Jeff Eaton. The Lullabot team will be at your disposal to answer questions from numerous perspectives and to ensure that every student receives one-on-one instruction.
Lullabot has created sites for Ringo Starr, MTV, Sony Records, Participant Productions, and Leo Laporte at This Week In Tech, and helped with planning and architecture of sites for television star Rhonda Britten of Starting Over, the BBC, and many others. Lullabot’s contributions to the Drupal project include: the URL aliasing module, the ecommerce package, sIFR, TinyMCE, and countless bug fixes and features, plus extensive documentation.
Who Should Attend?
- Web developers who are familiar with code, but don't have Drupal programming experience.
- Drupal site administrators or are seeking to take Drupal to the "next level" with custom coding.
- Drupal developers looking to improve the depth of their API knowledge.
- Software architects on the fence about whether or not to go with Drupal, who want more in-depth information on how it works internally.

Attendees should be comfortable with PHP and MySQL. Previous experience with Drupal is a plus, but not required. Seating is limited, so register soon.
Past Attendees Say:
The Lullabot team has done it again, creating a fantastic learning experience with their API workshop. The team explained some really dense material in a clear and easy to understand fashion. Can't wait to create my own modules.
WayGee Ho - Technical Project Mgr, VH1
The approachability of all the Lullabot staff was awesome. It was very easy talk to any one of the Lullabots, and all of them had a ton of knowledge to share.
Tom Friedhof - Active LAMP
Easily one of the best classes I have taken.
Bill Judd - Senior Web Analyst, Alameda County Office of Education
Smart, experienced, and friendly. If you like that sort of thing...
Geoff Butterfield, Director of IT - The George Lucas Educational Foundation
What Should I Bring?
Bring your laptop in order to get the full benefit of the workshop. Lullabot will provide each participant their own hosted Drupal site to work on during class.
You'll also want to bring your list of things that you're trying to do and have questions about. We're here to help!
