When you said outtake,

I was hoping for Eaton in a Jester's cap!

Great info though! I don't know how many times I've been asked by newer converts this very question.

Excellent

Thank you for sharing this, it is the biggest issue a Drupal site builder faces after they have committed to using Drupal regardless of their programming abilities.

Good Advice, but

The video was really good advice on the criteria for looking at a module. However, I think it would be helpful to all if there was more description on drupal.org as to what particular modules actually do and how they actually work.
I think all developers of a module should name one or two sites where the module is actually deployed so you can see it working on a live site.
If it is not actually on a live site, then you probably should be careful about testing it.
In the video, it was mentioned that Views and CCK are almost essential modules - well, if you searched the modules section of Drupal.org, you probably would not realise that. In fact, you probably would not even know what they do.
People startin with Drupal agonise over choices like
"should I use Simplenews or PHPList?"
"should I use ecommerce or ubercart?"
"what modules will keep the spammers away?"
"what are the modules I actually need to make my site function?" and "what are the nice optional extras?"
Perhaps some of these issues are addressed in the full-length video. I am only commenting on the snippet.
And yes, I do recommend people listen to the Lullabot podcast which are helpful. Thanks to Matt at GodandGeeks who also have a good podcast and who also recommended Lullabot.

Helpful site for modules

I found this site to be fairly helpful in finding important modules:
