[Ryan Szrama](https://ryanszrama.com/) (aka [rszrama](http://drupal.org/user/49344)) talks about his path from working on different Drupal e-commerce modules starting with co-developing the [Ubercart module](http://drupal.org/project/ubercart) for [Prima Supply,](https://primasupply.com/) and then on to working on [Drupal Commerce](http://drupal.org/project/commerce) for [Commerce Guys.](https://commerceguys.com/)

In January of this year, [Szrama announced](https://ryanszrama.com/blog/01-14-2010/rose-any-other-name) that he and Commerce Guys were creating a fork of Ubercart called [Drupal Commerce.](https://drupalcommerce.org/) There were a number of trademark issues and other disagreements of the future direction of Ubercart, and so Szrama took his [Ubercore initiative](https://ryanszrama.com/blog/10-22-2009/ubercart-20-and-ubercore-initiative) and started porting it to Drupal 7. Ubercart continues to be one of the leading e-commerce solutions for Drupal 6, and Drupal Commerce is building off a lot of the latest changes in Drupal 7 and has a lot of high-profile community support building around it, including one of the top Drupal 7 core contributors [Damien Tournoud.](http://drupal.org/user/22211)

Ubercart will [continue to be developed and supported by Prima into Drupal 7](https://www.ubercart.org:443/forum/development/15127/ubercart_road_map), and there will also be an upgrade path to migrate from Ubercart on Drupal 6 to Drupal Commerce on Drupal 7.

The French-based [AF83 has joined forces with Commerce Guys](https://commerceguys.com/about/news/bringing-better-ecommerce-to-drupal-commerce-guys-goes-international) to create a joint venture in creating Drupal e-commerce sites with special checkout monitoring services that Szrama talks a bit about.

The Commerce Guys were also involved with helping create a [Drupal 7 driver for Microsoft's SQL Server,](http://drupal.org/project/sqlsrv) and they talked more about it in [this DrupalCon session.](http://sf2010.drupal.org/conference/sessions/drupal-7-and-microsoft-sql-server)

For more information on Szrama's transition from working on Ubercart to Drupal Commerce, then be sure to check out [his DrupalCon presentation](http://sf2010.drupal.org/conference/sessions/ubercart-drupal-commerce).
