[Pat Teglia](http://twitter.com/CrashTest_) (aka [CrashTest\_](http://drupal.org/user/261457)) of [Palantir.net](https://www.palantir.net/) talks about the process of using [Appcelerator's Titanium framework](https://www.appcelerator.com/) to write JavaScript that is then compiled into native iPhone and Android applications. He collaborated with Larry Garfield and Jen Simmons to create the [DrupalCon Chicago iPhone app](http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/drupalcon/id421074805?mt=8) and [Android app](https://market.android.com/details?id=net.palantir.drupalcon). Teglia talks about the benefits of using the Titanium API over other mobile platform solutions like [PhoneGap.](https://freesoft.net/) He also explains how they used [Views Datasource](http://drupal.org/project/views_datasource) to get JSON-formatted data from the [DrupalCon Chicago website](http://chicago2011.drupal.org/) that was then fed into the application (here's an example of the [presenter data](http://chicago2011.drupal.org/mobile/fetch/presenters) and the [session data.](http://chicago2011.drupal.org/mobile/fetch/session)). Finally, talks a bit about the differences between what's available to iPhone and Android apps and how you're able to geo-location, accelerometer and the permissions-based features of the base mobile operating systems. You can find more information about the code they wrote on Palantir's github at https://github.com/palantirnet/drupalcon\_mobile
