A lot of people may not know how critical the [project\* modules](http://groups.drupal.org/node/3686) are to the Drupal development ecosystem, but the [project](http://drupal.org/project/project), [project issue tracking](http://drupal.org/project/project_issue) & [CVS integration](http://drupal.org/project/cvslog) modules are at the center of operating the [issue queues](http://drupal.org/project/issues) on Drupal.org and therefore facilitating the distributed development of Drupal's huge developer base.

[Derek Wright](https://3281d.com/bio/derek) (aka [dww](http://drupal.org/user/46549)) talks a bit about the storied history of the suite of project modules and his efforts to bring them out of a state of disrepair.

Derek & [Chad Phillips](https://3281d.com/bio/chad) have started a consulting company named [3281d consulting](https://3281d.com/), which is named after the project module's project page at http://drupal.org/node/3281. They're focusing on further developing tools for project management, issue tracking, revision control & release management as well as providing consulting on security and [test-driven integration](https://blog.boombatower.com/testbed-design-change-and-development/) tools -- all informed from their work on drupal.org.
