Since 2000, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) has funded groundbreaking research while supporting patients, families, and the Parkinson’s community. In preparation for the launch of *All Grit. No Quit.*, a five-year, $2.5 billion campaign, [MichaelJFox.org](http://michaeljfox.org) needed to evolve from an informational website into a platform that could inspire action, deepen donor relationships, and communicate the urgency of the mission.

## **Key outcomes**

- **Mobile-first design** for the 60% of its 7.03 million annual sessions that come from mobile devices
- **Expanded, maintainable design system**: with 70+ reusable components
- **Personalized audience journeys** for donors, newly diagnosed patients, caregivers, and fundraisers
- **Dedicated campaign hub for** weaving the campaign story throughout the broader website and providing space for donor recognition
- **WCAG 2.2 AA standards** across every redesigned template

## **The challenge**

The existing website wasn’t built for a campaign of this size. The homepage lacked momentum, storytelling opportunities were scattered, donation pathways were unclear, and the site had no place to recognize donors.

The challenge was not to rebuild the website, but to expand on what was already there and turn it into a more flexible, engaging, and campaign-ready platform.

## **Understanding the ecosystem**

We started the project with workshops and strategy sessions that brought together leaders from marketing communications, fundraising, design, and technology. Together, we identified audience needs, business goals, and opportunities within the current platform.

We audited 17 content templates and 70+ existing component types to see where the system needed improvement while keeping the foundation MJFF had built over time. Using GA4 data from more than 7 million annual sessions, we studied how people used the site on desktop and mobile, found key friction points, and prioritized the most important user journeys.

These insights defined a clearer strategy that made the right information obvious, key actions easy, and deeper engagement possible.

## **Bringing new energy**

Instead of replacing MJFF’s existing design system, we built on it. This gave the site a more modern, flexible foundation while maintaining the trust and recognition MJFF has earned over the years.

We held a collaborative workshop with all stakeholders to align on the new visual direction. The result is a more vibrant and modern experience, with bold typography, thoughtful use of space, richer images, and storytelling moments that highlight the urgency of All Grit. No Quit.

Accessibility remained foundational throughout the process, with redesigned templates and components built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards.

## **Creating a connected storytelling experience**

One big opportunity was bringing MJFF’s stories together into a more meaningful ecosystem.

The new **Stories Hub** is a central place for patient, donor, researcher, and impact stories. Instead of scattered content, users can browse stories more easily, and MJFF can connect stories across different campaigns and initiatives.

## **Building a foundation for what comes next**

The redesign went beyond single pages and created a sustainable design system. We built a detailed Figma library with reusable components, patterns, and guidelines to keep design and development consistent.

We documented how to use components and established content governance workflows so MJFF’s internal teams could manage campaign updates and update the site without relying on outside support.

We also used an LLM-assisted workflow to keep design and development moving in lockstep. It pulled component specifications, including colors, spacing, and typography, directly from Figma and used them to generate corresponding Drupal components, reducing repetitive work and helping keep the design and code consistent.

## **The results**

MJFF is better equipped to turn All Grit. No Quit. momentum into long-term support for its mission. The redesigned site helps visitors understand why Parkinson's research matters and why continued support is so critical. It also connects people more directly with the stories behind the science and creates more meaningful opportunities for supporters to see their impact and take action.

Just as importantly, this work positions MJFF for what comes after the campaign. MJFF is set up to continue evolving its web presence, supporting new initiatives, and strengthening relationships with the Parkinson's community for years to come.
