Command Line Basics: SSH and SCP
Video by Addison BerryApril 8, 2010 - 11:12am
Watch the video on Drupalize.me
In this video you'll see how simple it is to connect to a remote server using SSH (secure shell). We'll also look at how you can quickly and securely copy files from a remote server using the SCP command (secure copy). These are both invaluable tools when working with servers that you don't have physical access to.

Thanks!
Thanks - nice simple tutorial.
Thanks
Great tips, I didn't know it'd be so simple to scp from local to remote.
Also, I want your wallpaper.
Flame Nebula
My wallpaper in that video is an image from APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day), The Flame Nebula, http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap100112.html.
Got it
Lovely stuff, thanks for the link.
SSH and SCP video blog
I admire your ability to clearly and succinctly share valuable skills. Well done! Looking forward to more.
Fantastic Addison
I have been wondering how to do this for ages (actually about a year)!!!
Love it!
Great video
I'll have to bookmark this link. I know I avoided CLI for a long time because a GUI "seemed" much easier and more powerful, but this is a great video for users that need to get this simple stuff under their belt.
ignore with scp
How can you configure scp to ignore certain files like .DS_Store files, for example?
Wow, another great and useful
Wow, another great and useful video for me. I just switched from PC to Mac and use the command line much more often now. I saw that you did something to move the cursor up one line instead of going back one by one with the left arrow key, which I use and hate since I keep misspelling things and it takes forever to go back that way. I tried a few keyboard combinations, but couldn't find out how it's done. Mind sharing? :)
Very Helpful
Thanks heaps for this tutorial. I eventually got me started with the command line.
