Drupal Performance and Scalability Seminar

Profits from this seminar will be donated to the Drupal Association.
Are you responsible for Drupal sites that get thousands or even millions of hits per day? Would you like to be? Are you looking for ways to eke out that extra bit of Drupal performance? Do you currently have a high-profile site on another platform and are looking for information on whether Drupal can handle the traffic? Are you looking for tips on totally tweaking out your LAMP stack? If any of the above sound like you, then you've come to the right place!
Before you go out and buy a new server, make sure that you fully understand the performance enhancements that you can get for free by simply understanding the configuration options available to Drupal, Apache, and your database.
Join us in this one-day seminar where Drupal pros will share their first-hand professional knowledge and tips on getting maximum performance out of Drupal. Topics to be covered include:
- How to use Drupal's built-in performance tools to survive the "Digg/Slashdot effect."
- How (and when) to scale server architecture to multiple machines.
- How to benchmark and profile a Drupal site using open source tools.
- Caching, caching, caching: Drupal's caching mechanisms, database caching, and PHP code caching.
- Load balancing and Round-Robin DNS.
- Apache, PHP, and MySQL optimizations, tips, and tricks.
- Optimizing Drupal for delivering "viral" content.
- Common snafus: what to look for when evaluating contributed modules.
Who's Teaching?
We're fortunate to be joined by four experts in the field of high-performance Drupal sites:
- Dries Buytaert, the creator and project lead of Drupal.
- James Walker of Bryght, whose company has deployed Drupal as a multisite hosted solution.
- Jeremy Andrews of CivicSpace, who built their mass-hosting setup from the ground up, and runs the high-profile site KernelTrap.
- Matt Westgate (co-author of Pro Drupal Development), of our very own Lullabot, who handles server administration for high-profile sites by Sony and MTV.
Note: Details subject to change
Who Should Attend?
- Drupal developers who want to know more about optimizations that can be made to their own code.
- Systems administrators responsible for the LAMP stack in their organization.
- Maintainers of high-profile sites who want to learn more about Drupal from an architectural standpoint.
While not necessary, attendees who have working knowledge of Apache, PHP, MySQL, and Drupal will get the most benefit from this workshop. Seating is limited, so register soon.
What Should I Bring?
Just yourself! Although you may wish to bring a laptop in order to look up references and such during the seminar, this seminar will be largely presentation-style and not hands-on.
You'll also want to bring your list of things that you're trying to do and have questions about. We're here to help!
If you need help making a decision about attending or have further questions about the class, please contact us here.
We'll see you there!
Start time 10 am, end time approximately 5 pm.
