Michael Meyers is the Founder & Chief Technology Officer of Now Public, which has been an innovator in the realm of citizen journalism and citizen reporting.
They're developing a number of collaborative tools to become the "Wikipedia of news," and we talk with Michael about some of the exciting resources that Now Public has now available and in the works.

They have a Crowd Power feature that allows users to discover and include social media resources in their stories. And Now Public is ingesting the full twitter feed, and will be soon releasing some pretty robust searching tools as part of their scan functionality, which is still at a first generation stage. It sounds like they're ready to make quite a splash in the twitter ecosystem with the capabilities that Michael describes in the interview.

Now Public also contributes back code including the Support File Cache and have various repositories from developers like here.

Tools

Hi -

Around 4:33 Michael Myers talks about taking in the twitter full feed based on trending topics. I couldn't understand what tool he mentioned "fire host"... or something like that. Is it possible to post a run-down of the modules/tools he uses?

thanks much!

Not really

He said "fire hose", not "host". He was referring to the fact that they pull the entire feed; everything they can get. It was unfortunately a metaphor, not a module. I can assure you that the vast majority of what makes nowpublic.com what it is is not something you will be able to freely download as a Drupal project (any time soon, at least).
