A lot of people may not know how critical the project* modules are to the Drupal development ecosystem, but the project, project issue tracking & CVS integration modules are at the center of operating the issue queues on Drupal.org and therefore facilitating the distributed development of Drupal's huge developer base.

Derek Wright (aka dww) talks a bit about the storied history of the suite of project modules and his efforts to bring them out of a state of disrepair.

Derek & Chad Phillips have started a consulting company named 3281d consulting, which is named after the project module's project page at http://drupal.org/node/3281. They're focusing on further developing tools for project management, issue tracking, revision control & release management as well as providing consulting on security and test-driven integration tools -- all informed from their work on drupal.org.

They've also got a few pet projects waiting for a sponsor like a more robust Version Control API as well as improving the user experience of install profiles.

Update on testing

The Automated Testing Framework 2.0 which in in deployment stages will support testing triggered off commits and even support alternative version control systems.

In addition Boombatower Development offers testing services and consulting. I have thought about it before, it may make sense to form a business relationship with 3281d consulting.

Thanks for the update

Thanks Jimmy. I was looking for the latest information on the current testing set-up with graphics and all, and your blog post was the most detailed. Good to hear that you're also doing testing consulting, and we should talk about it in more detail at some point since that workflow is crazy impressive.
